Introductory Letter

Dear Professor Blackstone,

I hope this email finds you well. My name is Tai Lennon, and I am a Civil Engineering student at Singapore Institute of Technology. I am reaching out to express my excitement being in your class and would like to introduce myself.

Being a Civil Engineering alumni from Singapore Polytechnic, I have always had a keen interest in the course, particularly in the math and physics aspects of structural analysis. This passion was derived over time throughout the course as I like to work with numbers and apply them in real-life scenarios. I am eager to deepen my understanding through both academic and practical experiences. Building on my fundamentals, I am driven to develop further on the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the industry.

Academically, my goal for this module is to combine critical thinking with clear and effective communication and excel in group projects. I feel that it is essential to be able to develop solutions to complex problems and learn how to explain ideas clearly to others. Professionally, I aspire to gain hands-on experience through internships where I can apply my classroom knowledge to practical situations. By refining my ability to communicate technical concepts effectively and analyse complex problems, I hope to contribute value to the teams I join while building a solid foundation for my future career.

One of my key strengths is my ability to adapt quickly to new environments. Even though I am naturally introverted, I am not afraid to step out of my comfort zone to interact with new faces.  Additionally, I thrive in adjusting to new surroundings by proactively finding solutions to problems faced. As for weaknesses, I acknowledge that I can be forgetful at times. I always find it challenging to keep up with deadlines or might forget to follow up on important tasks given.  However, I am actively working on addressing this by maintaining a detailed planner and setting reminders to keep track of my responsibilities.

I believe what sets me apart from others is my empathy and kindness. Being a good listener with no judgement, I empathise with others by understanding different perspectives and providing moral support.

Thank you for taking the time to read my introduction. I hope to improve on my communication skills with this module, and I look forward to a fruitful trimester with you and my peers.

Best Regards,
Tai Lennon
